Winter Natural Hair Care Tips

Wash Your Hair

During winter don’t wash it frequently as it makes the hair more drier. Wash the hair once a week and if your hair is oily than wash twice. Use lukewarm water and mild shampoo make sure that the water should not be hot. Hot water takes away all traces of natural oil from scalp causing dry hair, dandruff and hair loss. Don’t use the shampoos that have very strong detergents like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Myreth Sulfate. Even you are not suffering from dandruff you use anti- dandruff shampoo for precautionary measure.

Hot Oil Massage

Do hot oil scalp massage twice a week to preserve the health and moisture level of the hair. Massage improves the blood circulation in the scalp and makes the hair and its roots stronger. You can use jojoba oil, coconut oil or olive oil for massage. Massage the scalp with oil and cover the towel over the head. Keep it on for 5 minutes. Before covering the towel dip it in hot water and squeeze out water from it. The hair and scalp absorb the oil better by this hot oil treatment. In winter avoid the use of henna and herbal oils such as aloe oil, hibiscus or castor oil.

Keep the Hair Tied

Always tie your hair as cold and chilly winds damages the hair strands. You can put a knot. Common hairstyles during winter are French twist, French braid, bob-cut, and shags. Dry hairs break easily so avoid too much brushing. Also don’t go outside with wet hair this can cause hair breakage.

Anti Static Treatment

During winters static energy is very common and it damages the hair more. Brushing the hair is a very huge trouble if hair is charged with static energy. Prior to brushing your hair, rub a dryer softener sheet or piece of anti static mat above the brush to lessen the tangles in hair. You can also use wooden comb to lessen static electricity.

Diet

During winter season eat a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables and vitamins such as A, C, E, and different B vitamins to improve the hair quality. Also eat protein rich foods like Soybean, beans, pulses and meat to nourish the hair. To make the hair dark and strong, consume iron supplements with folic acid.

Hair Conditioner

After every wash apply a leave-in conditioner as it help to reduce dryness caused by the cold weather. After applying wash the hair with lukewarm water and to add shine to your hair run it through cold water. Use the conditioner which contains essential fatty acids because they are natural oils which are very like sebum. You can also use the homemade conditioner.

Avoid Blow Dryer

Do not dry your hair using blow dryers as they damage the hair more. Heat is generated by dryer that is very damaging for the hair. It also makes the hair dry and rough. So try to dry your hair naturally. Also avoid perming, crimping, coloring or streaking. You can use dryer on the cool mode as it will cause less damage to the hair.
