Greek Honey Walnut Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • Honey Syrup

Method:

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Grease and flour square pan, 9 x 9 x 2 inches.
  • Beat all ingredients except walnuts and Honey Syrup in small mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds.
  • Beat on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, 1 minute.
  • Stir in walnuts.
  • Pour into pan.
  • Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes.
  • Cool cake in pan about 30 minutes.
  • Prepare Honey Syrup.
  • Cut top of cake into diamond pattern; pour syrup evenly over top of cake.
