Various Methods For Brewing Coffee That You Might Not Know

We all love that first cup of hot coffee in the morning. Indeed, for most of us, nothing gets done until we have enjoyed our morning brew. Of course, there are many different ways to brew coffee. In this short article, we offer some of the more popular coffee brewing methods.

  • Espresso – The most popular of the pressure brews, espresso can be found in every coffee shop. The system pushes almost boiling water through the ground coffee at a pressure of 8 or 9 atmospheres. For best results, the ground coffee should be fine, although not as fine as Turkish coffee and an espresso machine is obviously required. Perhaps one of the best examples are the Hillkoff coffee products, which you can order online, along with the equipment.
  • Moka Pot – This is an Italian device that brews coffee in the same way an espresso machine does, although it doesn’t have as much pressure. How does it work? There is a small pot in the mid-section that contains the coffee grind, and the water is heated in the bottom of the pot. Pressure sends the water through the mid-section where it meets the coffee grind and the brewed coffee sits in the upper chamber, as the steam condenses.
  • Vacuum coffee brewing – This is an unusual form of pressure brewing. The vacuum pot comprises of two sections, a water pot and a section that holds the coffee grind. Once the pot is set on the fire, the water heats up and is forced up the tube into the coffee grind chamber. When all the water is in the vacuum chamber, the pot is removed from the fire. The hot water in the upper chamber then cools, the coffee is pulled back into the pot, which retains all the flavour and aroma of the coffee.
  • French press coffee – Known as the press pot, this is a tall and narrow device with a plunger and mesh to catch the grind. The hot water is added and left to simmer for a few minutes, then the plunger is pressed down to force the grind down and the brewed coffee remains. This is an easy way to make a really good cup of coffee and the brew contains the full aroma of the coffee.
  • Coffee bags – Much like tea bags, a small sachet of coffee grind is dropped into a cup of hot water and left to brew for a few minutes. This is a great way to make a quick brew, but coffee experts would point out that some of the flavour is lost.
  • Coffee drip percolator – This is very popular in Europe, where the electric coffee percolator sits on a kitchen top, ready for use at any time. It takes about 10 minutes to make a pot of coffee, which is full of flavour and very convenient, ideal for the busy kitchen or office.
  • Auto drip coffee machine – This is a gravity brewing method. Simply add coffee grounds and water and the machine does the rest. This is ideal when you want to make coffee for a few people, but you don’t have the time to spend brewing a hot pot of coffee.
