Shalwar kameez is a South Asian dress also known as Salwar Kameez or Shalwar Qameez. Shalwar Kameez is mostly worn in Pakistan or India. Shalwar Kameez can be made of pretty much any fabric but chiffon, cotton or silk are most commonly used.
Shalwar is usually wide that uses drawstring as belt to hold. Top of shalwar is covered with Kameez as Kameez is usually long. In todays fashion Shalwar are becoming more like pants but still the top is covered by Kameez. These new type of shalwar is called trouser or Capri. Modern ladies tend to have length of their capris 4-6 inches shorter from ankle.

Kameez comes in variety of shapes. Length can differ based on latest fashion trend. In old days there was fashion of very short kameez length but today short and long lengths are used. For simple home Shalwar Kameez suit cotton or lawn fabric is used with no embroidery what so ever. Although ladies tend to choose pattern on their fabric of choice.
For small to medium gathering ladies choose shalwar kameez fabric that is not lawn instead cotton or other fabrics such as silk or chiffon. Light embroidery is often used on the chest and bottom front of kameez but not too heavy. Mostly hand embroidery is preferred but machine work on Shalwar Kameez is just as good these days.
