Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
- Honey Syrup
Method:
- Heat oven to 350°.
- Grease and flour square pan, 9 x 9 x 2 inches.
- Beat all ingredients except walnuts and Honey Syrup in small mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds.
- Beat on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, 1 minute.
- Stir in walnuts.
- Pour into pan.
- Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes.
- Cool cake in pan about 30 minutes.
- Prepare Honey Syrup.
- Cut top of cake into diamond pattern; pour syrup evenly over top of cake.
